What is Platform as a Service?

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a type of cloud computing that provides developers with ways to create applications without having to manage their own servers.

It can also be referred to as application hosting and more often than not, it comes in the form of an operating system-like server environment on top of which various software packages are installed and executed.

Services provided by PaaS Providers

PAAS providers provide IT infrastructure and data storage on demand to developers, self-serve style.

This enables developers to focus their efforts on app development without spending time and resources building out datacenter or web server capacity.

The type of services that PaaS provides can include hosting servers in public cloud, private clouds, colocation facilities, etc.
